The Star Improvement Group is a small group of current and former Second Step clients, committed to improving the quality of Second Step services. We want to recruit enthusiastic and committed people who have diverse experiences, from a range of different cultures and backgrounds to join the STAR Improvement Group.
As a group member you will:
- Work with the Quality Improvement Team to carry out reviews of Second Step services. After each review we produce a report detailing the strengths and areas for improvement and our recommendations for the service. Our work makes a real difference to the lives of the people Second Step supports.
- Help us complete at least three Service Reviews every year. Second Step provides a range of different services across the South West, which ensures the work is interesting and varied.
- Play a key role in obtaining feedback from people who are currently supported by Second Step. This includes writing surveys, assisting current clients to complete these, often via telephone and sometimes face to face.
- Be included in every aspect of service reviews, including meetings with frontline staff and team managers.
- Have opportunities to complete detailed analysis of performance data and help produce reports.
What we would like from you:
- To benefit from your experience of receiving services from Second Step (and possibly other organisations). We also welcome carers to apply.
- The ability to attend regular meetings. The group meets regularly; usually for 2-3 hours a week but sometimes more due to the nature of the work. We understand that members may need a break from the work at times and we are supportive and work flexibly as a team to manage this.
- To be willing to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. You will be supported to apply and Second Step will pay for it to be completed. Please note that the results of a DBS check won’t necessarily exclude someone; Second Step will work positively with the person to manage the issues raised wherever possible.
What we will offer you:
- A warm welcome into the group and to give you an overview of what we do, and how we work together.
- Training and learning opportunities to support you in this role and to develop your skills.
- Support as required - the nature of our work means that people may at times disclose personal information that can be upsetting or distressing.
- Payments of £12 per hour; this involves signing up to Second Step’s Rewarding Involvement Policy. Payments for any out-of-pocket expenses are paid on the day (e.g. travel expenses), reward payments for your time are paid monthly in arrears.
This role is for up to three years and we will support you to identify further opportunities, develop your CV and provide a reference when you are moving on from the group.
