The Bank Team
Looking for flexible opportunities to make a difference in vital mental health and homelessness services in Bristol, Somerset and North Somerset? Join Second Step’s Bank Team, our dedicated pool of workers who step in to fill crucial roles when our services need extra support.
As a member of our Bank Team, you’ll have the freedom to pick up shifts for short-term roles which work around your schedule while allowing you to gain valuable work experience in the health and social care sector.
With 25 services and nearly 8,000 clients across the South West, we offer a diverse range of roles, including mental health support roles at our crisis centres in Somerset and North Somerset, working with clients in supported accommodation, and providing administrative support at our main Bristol office at 162 Pennywell Road.

Our Bank staff are highly valued by everyone here at Second Step: new shifts are posted regularly, and you’ll have access to extensive training and e-learning opportunities to support your personal and professional development.
Many of our Bank staff join the Bank Team to supplement their income, help them build confidence in a particular area of work, or gain work experience before making a full-time career move. Whatever your career goals or reasons for joining the Bank Team, we are here to support you.

Bank Team roles in Somerset and North Somerset
Our Bank Team workers in Somerset and North Somerset can work across our wide range of mental health and accommodation services, including:
- Safe Haven Crisis and Recovery Centre (Weston-super-Mare) – Providing crisis support appointments to people in North Somerset, working in a recovery-orientated way to empower clients and help them rebuild their confidence and independence.
- Step Down (Wells and Yeovil) – Helping people settle back into the community after spending time in inpatient hospital care through a mixture of emotional and practical support.
- Crisis Safe Space (Frome, Glastonbury and Bridgwater) – Supporting people in Somerset who need immediate, short-term crisis support, helping them access the support they need in the community rather than emergency or inpatient services.
Bank Team roles in Bristol
Our Bank Team workers in Bristol can work across our wide range of mental health and accommodation services, including:
- Second Step reception, facilities, and Bank Team support – Providing administrative support at our main office at 162 Pennywell Road in Bristol.
- Community Rehabilitation – Working with the team to support clients living in the community or at our supported accommodation centre Wellbridge House, helping them build on their strengths, pursue their goals, and develop the confidence to live as independently as possible.
- High Support Accommodation Services – Working with our supported housing team, for example, at our supported accommodation centre Toll House Court, to support people facing complex challenges such as homelessness, drug and alcohol use, and mental health difficulties.
