BBC shines a light on Hope Project
BBC Radio Bristol presenter John Darvall interviewed Matty from our suicide prevention project, Hope, earlier this week as part of a two-hour special on men’s mental health.
Matty tells how the Hope Project helped him get back on his feet after he’d given up on life and was contemplating suicide. His Hope worker, Ezra, helped him practically by supporting him to find a new home and also emotionally by supporting him to go on long walks to keep mentally well.
John Darvall also spoke to the manager of the Hope Project Marina O’Brien about why it is so many middle-aged men in the Bristol area take their own lives. The statistics show that 70% of suicides in the Bristol area are men.
