Step Down, Somerset
Community mental health service in Somerset
Step Down is a service that helps people settle back in the community after spending time in in-patient care.
We are a 9-5 service that supports clients with practical living skills such as cooking, cleaning and shopping, as well as admin tasks such as budgeting, managing benefits, and making onward referrals to specialist support if needed.
We also offer emotional support to encourage clients as they rebuild their confidence and resilience and reconnect with their community.
Step Down was set up in June 2020, and became part Open Mental Health Alliance in June 2023. Open Mental Health is an alliance of mental health organisations, including us here at Second Step, all working in partnership to provide mental health support to adults in Somerset.

The Step Down team works in partnership with the Next Steps team (also part of Open Mental Health) to ensure clients have all the support they need to make the transition from hospital back into the community as smooth as possible. Find out more about Next Steps here.
