North Somerset Wellbeing is teaming up with Beyond Equality to host three workshops focused on men’s wellbeing. The workshops are free and open to all men and anyone who identifies as male, who are 18+ and live in North Somerset.
These workshops will provide a safe space to have genuine chats about wellbeing, connect with other men and pick up tips to support your own wellbeing. We’ll focus particularly on male experiences of wellbeing and mental health, masculinities and the impact on how men and male-identifying people access support.
The workshops will take place on Thursday 8 August, Thursday 15 August and Thursday 22 August, 10.30am to 12.30pm at:
4 Boulevard
Weston-super-Mare
BS23 1NA
You can sign up to the workshops by filling in our online booking form here.
Here are summaries of the topics we’ll cover in the workshops:
Workshop 1: Men and Mental Wellbeing
Thursday 8 August, 10.30am to 12.30pm, 4 Boulevard, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1NA
In this session, we’ll explore the question, what does men’s mental wellbeing mean to you? This will be a brave, compassionate space for open conversations about how we respond to our own mental wellbeing and what support is out there. We’ll also explore the important role that gender plays in the conversation.
Workshop 2: Masculinities and Seeking Support
Thursday 15 August, 10.30am to 12.30pm, 4 Boulevard, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1NA
We’ll look at the ways masculinities can prevent or encourage us to seek support and how we seek support. We’ll discuss how masculinities can impact us and others, especially our mental wellbeing. We’ll also explore ways we can talk to each other and how we can build more supportive communities.
Workshop 3: Men and building supportive communities
Thursday 22 August, 10.30am to 12.30pm, 4 Boulevard, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1NA
In our final session, we’ll go beyond the ‘are you ok?’ to look at the barriers we and others face to accessing support and start laying the groundwork to reduce these barriers. We’ll explore the broader social dynamics and how they come into play as we work towards building more supportive communities. In doing so, we aspire to create a supportive environment in our community for everyone of all identities.
